A shop worker showered with praise for her customer service skills via Facebook says the public outpouring took her ‘by surprise’.

Lynne McCann, who works at Tesco Express in Chalkwell Road, Sittingbourne, was unaware of what was being said about her on the social networking site until a friend tagged her in on the comments being left on The Gossip Board Sittingbourne.

It started with Chelsey Dobbs posting a message last Friday asking who used the store.

She wrote: “I do, probably once a month when I’m that way and need to pick up something. Most times I go in, there is a lady at the counter with dark brown medium length hair who can not wait to serve you with a great big smile on her face; always asks how you are and just a real nice genuine person.

“I do hope Tesco sees this and realises how great she is.”

By Monday more than 160 comments had been left about the supermarket employee.

Carla Hazel said: “A beautiful lady and is always smiling.”

Conor Colegate added: “I’m glad your good work and lovely personality has been noticed. You are such a caring nice and genuine person it a pleasure to know you and for Tesco to have you as one of the employees.”

The married 46-year-old said: “It’s taken me by surprise.

“As I keep telling people I’m just doing my job.

“I’ve worked there eight years this October. I do everything but I’m on the till quite a lot. I love my job because it’s working with the public and I love the public. I’m intrigued by people.

“The manager of my doctor’s surgery said they’d like to give me a job. I’ve also been asked by people who work with those with learning disabilities but I like it where I am.

“I suppose it’s because of the way I am, I get on with people of all ages and from all walks of life. I like to make them feel important and that obviously goes a long way.

“I try to be a positive, happy and smiley. I’m just that sort of person.”

She also goes above and beyond the call of duty.

Mrs McCann, of the town’s Hythe Road, added: “We get a lot of older people in and I’ve carried their shopping home for some of them as their flat is only around the corner.

“It’s not just me though – the whole team is good.”
