The family of a teacher who died abroad say they are "broken beyond repair" after the man previously convicted of his murder has walked free.
Vincent Madouré was found guilty of the murder of Carl Davies from Sittingbourne in June 2017.
In a twist of events, he was released in October under judicial supervision after his appeal for a retrial was successful and has now been acquitted of all charges.
Today, the family of the 33-year-old have reacted to this development via the Justice for Carl Davies Facebook page.
In an emotional post, they write: "This is the end of the road for us now.
"We have done everything we can but unfortunately there is nothing by law that we are able to do from now on.
"We are broken beyond repair and now just need to take time out to grieve for our loss."
The body of the former Royal Marine, who worked at Sittingbourne Community College and later at the Isle of Sheppey Academy before joining a security firm tackling piracy, was found on the south Indian Ocean island of Reunion in November 2011.
Ahead of the retrial, The Davies family rallied against this decision holding protests, leading petitions and appearing on numerous mainstream TV outlets.
They flew thousands of miles to Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean to attend the latest hearings in the case.
