MEMBERS of the Allen family were hoping for a new life in a new home and, to save their pets any stress, they put them into kennels.
But for lurcher bitch Betsy, it might have been the last time she saw the family who adore her as she has been stolen.
The distinctive cream-coloured dog, owned by Louisa Allen, was taken from Bobbing Kennels in Quinton Road, Sittingbourne, between 6pm on Monday and 11.30am on Tuesday.
The thieves bypassed 10 of Louisa’s valuable Alaskan Malamute and Siberian Husky Crufts show dogs to steal Betsy.
Lurchers are commonly used for illegal hare-coursing and she may have been spotted by the thieves while being exercised in the field at the kennels.
Louisa said: “Betsy is my constant companion and my children are devastated.”
Louisa, husband Matt and their four children, have moved to Sittingbourne from Appledore.
Louisa decided to put all the dogs in kennels to "make sure they were safe" during the move.
Betsy is rough-coated, four years old and resembles a deerhound. Her cream colour makes her very distinctive.
Louisa is very anxious for news of her pet, which is on medication and dog lovers across the country are helping with the search through the Dog Lost UK website.
Hundreds of posters have been put up around the area and people have been logging on to the Dog Lost website offering help and suggesting how to find her.
The theft has also been reported to police, and there is a reward for her safe return.
If you know where Betsy is or have any information contact Swale Police on 01795 477055. Log on to www.doglost.co.uk if you want to leave a message for Louisa.
