Writers, bloggers, graphic artists and journalists are being invited to take part in a new literary venture which aims to highlight the beauty of Swale and Medway.
The Wandering Words project has been developed and funded by Kent arts organisation Ideas Test in partnership with the Rochester Literature Festival.
It is hoped that people in the area will put pen to paper and write about the landscapes, architecture and communities that inspire them in the two boroughs.
All the pieces will be put into a digital library.
So far, 12 talented individuals have been chosen to kick-start the project and inspire other creative people in Sheppey to get involved.
Novelist Truda Thurai, from Sittingbourne, is among the dozen whose work is already on the Wandering Words website.
Her pieces chart the history of the town from the Bronze Age to today, interwoven with
fictional accounts from
people living there at the time.
She has written excerpts inspired by the findings of archaeological digs in The Meads, Sittingbourne.
She said: “The whole idea is to get people more interested in the place they live and to stop and look – you always find something of interest where you are.
“While it’s starting off with commissioned writers, it’s inspiring anyone to produce work to go up on the website.”
