Fire crews were called to Sittingbourne Community College this morning after smoke was seen coming from the building.
A fire service spokesman said: "We attended the school because of light smoke in the building. But no fire was found.
"The smoke is believed to have come from electrics. UK Power Networks was called."
The school tweeted: "Due to an electrical fault this morning, we were required to close one of our main buildings and the school reception area.
"We have re-roomed all classes and the school is fully functioning."
Some parents took to social media.
One wrote: "Hopefully the fire has not damaged any pupils' work."
Others wanted to know why they had not been notified.
One mum replied: "It happened at 6 this morning in C-Block which has the main reception and post-16 block upstairs.
"The school did not have any phone lines so was unable to contact parents or post anything on the internet.
"It was only a small fire and didn't affect any children."
The secondary school in Swanstree Avenue, Sittingbourne, specialises in the performing and creative arts, sports and engineering.
It has 1,100 pupils and is a member of the Swale Academies Trust.
