A picture sent to KentOnline by shopper Jake Armstrong shows several customers waiting outside the store.

Mr Armstrong said: “We got to Morrisons at around 7.35pm and the alarm triggered.

“Fire engine arrived in around 10 minutes [and] within 30 minutes we had five fire engines and a fire car.

“I’m not sure exactly what caused the fire.”

It is understood it started in the ceiling of a meeting room.

Fire crews extinguished the fire using dry powder, but while the store was evacuated there were no reported injuries.

The cause is believed to be accidental and started by an electrical fault.

Morrisons has been approached for more information.
