Fires at South Avenue Primary School and Sunny Bank Primary School in Sittingbourne

Two primary schools within a mile of each other will open tomorrow after fires inside the school grounds.

Smoke could be seen billowing from the grounds of South Avenue Primary School in Sittingbourne at about 4pm.

Meanwhile, the Sunny Bank Primary School in the Murston area of the town was also subject to a fire.

A message to parents this evening confirmed the school would be open again on Monday morning after the fire service and police were called.

Head of school Mr Waters attended the site and confirmed it would be safe to open along with advice from the fire service.

Pictures also showed smoke billowing from the grounds at South Avenue Primary School just across town.

But in a message shared this evening, the school told parents the school would be open as normal after "two fires had been set on the school grounds".

It added: "But both main buildings are fine and school will be open as usual tomorrow, Monday, September 7."

Kent Fire and Rescue Service and police have been approached for more information.
