Food guru opens school's kitchen

By Hayley Robinson

Celebrity Gregg Wallace got the chance to sample a 21st century school dinner when he opened a new kitchen and dining hall.

Cooking staff rustled up a roast beef dinner for the Masterchef presenter when he arrived at Lower Halstow School.

The £150,000 work provided a dining area for approximately 80 children and allows healthy school meals to be cooked and prepared on site.

Head teacher Cathy Walker said: "The school was given funding from the DCSF's Government Kitchen and Dining Area Grant and was in a position to match the funding. During our recent Ofsted inspection the Lead Inspector commented that Lower Halstow School was the best resourced small school that he had visited."

The food expert is the second celebrity to visit the school. In September 2007, Dame Kelly Holmes opened the Sports and Media Arts Hall.
