A Londoner will be making two stops in Swale as he attempts to cycle to every micropub in Britain in aid of charity.

Richard Reeve, from Enfield, is part-way through his 2,000-mile journey but faces the most arduous leg of it when he comes to Kent, which has the highest concentration of the pint-sized watering holes in the country.

The 50-year-old will be visiting 100 micropubs as he completes the challenge in stages over the year.

So far, he has cycled nearly 700 miles and visited about 30 of the pubs. His travels have taken him as far north as Berwick on the English-Scottish border.

The Campaign for Real Ale member will be raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society in memory of his father, who suffered from the condition in his later years.

Mr Reeve said: “I like the way micropubs are friendly. They’re all run by individuals rather than companies, and it’s like going back to what I imagine pubs were like 50 years ago.”

He will be at the Paper Mill, Charlotte Street, Sittingbourne, at midday on Sunday, June 28, and will depart at 1pm, possibly accompanied by the Swale Cyclists Touring Club.

He will later stop at the Heritage in Minster Road, Halfway, Sheppey, at around 2pm, if anyone wants to go for a pint and find out more about the trip.

Furlong’s in Preston Street, Faversham will be the next stop at 4pm, followed by the Black Dog in Whitstable at 6pm.
