A 100-metre cordon which was placed around a derelict property in Sittingbourne after a gas leak was reported earlier this afternoon has now been lifted.
Nearby residents were told to avoid the area after Kent Police and Kent Fire and Rescue Service were called to an address in Burley Road at 12.30pm today (Monday, July 5).
Southern Gas arrived at the scene shortly afterwards to help make the scene safe and EDF Energy was also in attendance to shut off any electricity supply to the property.
The road was eventually reopened just after 3pm.
The gas leak is being treated as suspicious and crime scene investigators are currently at the scene.
