A young dancer with a twinkle in her eye and toes to match has taken her first steps towards stardom.
Molly Goldsmith, 12, has been selected to dance in an open-air fundraiser at London’s Leicester Square on Saturday, November 17.
The Highsted pupil will be among 100 young dancers taking part in a flash mob - a performance that will happen without warning in front of unsuspecting passers by.
The stunt is part of the “Move Your Body 4 Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital” campaign and will feature a choreographed routine to Beyonce’s “Move Your Body”.
Molly, who has an older sister, Robyn, 16, who is also at Highsted, landed the audition through British Model Kids, a modelling agency she’s been with since the summer, which encouraged youngsters on its books to take part.
She and her mum Gemma, of Wadham Place, Sittingbourne, went to a hotel in London and she had to do a routine in front of an American producer.
Proud Gemma, 34, said: “She’s never really auditioned for anything before and afterwards they called me in to say how amazing she was.
“Molly would love to be a dancer, mainly in music videos because it’s more street dance, what she does. But she really wouldn’t mind, as long as it’s dancing, that’s when she’s most happy.
“She’s a performer through and through. She has a little twinkle in her eye.”
Molly, who used to be an acrobatic gymnast at The Swallows with Swifts, has been dancing competitively for a year and is a member of MIGHT-E, a street dance crew who meet at Sittingbourne Community College.
Rehearsals for next month’s fundraiser are due to be held at the Pineapple Dance Studios on November 9 and 16.
Each dancer has to collect sponsorship to take part and all funds raised will go towards the campaign for Great Ormond Street.
Its aim, as well as raising money, is to increase awareness about the importance of exercise and it is part of the Let’s Move initiative, promoted in the United States by Beyonce and the First Lady Michelle Obama.
It is hoped similar flash mobs will take place across the country.
Anyone who would like to sponsor Molly should contact Gemma by searching for “Gemma Goldsmith” on Facebook.
