Handbag stolen as woman visits The Garden of England Crematorium on anniversary of granddaughter's death

A daughter has reacted with anger after her mother’s handbag was stolen from a crematorium car park.

Rhoda Morgan and her husband Dave were at The Garden of England Crematorium, Bobbing, to mark the first anniversary of the death of their granddaughter who died shortly after being born.

Distracted, the 56-year-old left her handbag in their silver Fiat Doblo which they had forgotten to lock.

When they returned half-an-hour later they discovered it had been taken along with its contents which included a purse, a gift she had just received, keys, a diary and a Sony Xperia phone.

Daughter Catherine Button, who lives in Kemsley, took to Facebook appealing for witnesses to get in touch and to warn others to take care of their personal possessions and to ensure they lock their cars when parking at the site.

The 26-year-old said: “She rang me in a panic. She was very shaken and upset. I couldn’t believe what she was saying.

“It was on show unfortunately and the car was unlocked. She simply got distracted.

“It’s been reported to the police and there is CCTV which they’re going to be looking at.

“I’m really quite angry that someone would do that.

“It makes me feel sick. People who go there are grieving and then someone goes and does that.

“You just don’t think that sort of thing is going to happen at a place like that.

“They were only standing about 10ft away from the car in a little garden area behind a bush.”

The theft happened between 2pm and 2.30pm on Sunday, July 26.
