Southern Water has been carrying out utility repair and maintenance work since Monday, September 16.

On the company’s website, it has warned residents to expect low pressure or no water at all.

A spokesman added: “Following a fix to a pipe on Dolphin Road, the water main burst again as the pipe was recharged.

“Owing to the location close to the existing repair site we have had to close both lanes of the road while we make full repairs.

“Our teams are onsite to locate the exact position of the new break and we will get to work as soon as possible.

“We will keep customers updated on progress and we’re sorry for the disruption caused.”

Traffic lights had been set up along the road due to previous works and it was expected to return to normal tomorrow.

However, this morning drivers spotted it had instead been shut and barriers were in place.

One local warned others: “Prepare for Dolphin Road to be closed completely today.

“Not only is there roadworks that nobody is working on but now the pathway has lifted and water gushing out into the road.”
