Demelza hospice has praised a group of Sittingbourne fundraisers

A group has been praised for almost two decades of dedication to a children’s charity.

The Sittingbourne Friends was thrown a tea party by Demelza Hospice Care for Children to say thank you for its support and having raised nearly £60,000.

Members have been helping since before the building in Rook Lane, Bobbing, opened in 1998 and were instrumental in bringing in money to set up the facility itself.

Over the years, they have organised hundreds of events in support of the cause, from village and Christmas fairs, to strawberry teas, raffles and tombolas.

They have also worked hard to spread awareness, helped out with bucket collections and held their own stalls at open days.

In addition to tea and cakes to celebrate their achievements, chief executive Steve Hoy presented them with a certificate of thanks for the £58,000 they have raised to date.

The occasion also marked the last meeting of the group for the foreseeable future.

Community fundraiser Hannah Shotton said: “We could not be more grateful for everything the Sittingbourne Friends has done.

“To have had the group’s support since before the hospice opened is something very special to us.”

Miss Shotton is hoping to launch a new friends group in the area. If you would like to get involved call 07717731625 or email hannah.shotton@demelza.org.uk
