A mother-of-one who lives life day-to-day because of a brain tumour, has thanked companies which made two of her “bucket list” wishes come true.
Emma Young said she would love to drive a new Jaguar car and have a second honeymoon at Ashdown Park Hotel with her husband, Luke.
The 35-year-old, of Charlotte Street, Sittingbourne, was diagnosed with a meningioma in June last year and has since had two operations to remove it.
Surgeons managed to get 80% of the tumour but she suffered nerve damage which resulted in her left eyelid shutting completely, although she is slowly regaining movement in it.
Despite being benign, the tumour is wrapped around a main artery and could cause a stroke or death at any time.
After reading the article, Barretts in Canterbury contacted the News Extra offering the couple a Jaguar XK-R which they then drove to the hotel near East Grinstead where they spent the night last Wednesday.
The complimentary stay was also offered after general manager Ben Booker read Emma’s story.
She explained she was too unwell to enjoy their stay after their wedding on August 20, 2010, possibly due to the tumour.
The part-time dental nurse said: “Both the hotel stay and driving the Jaguar were amazing. I had butterflies while I was driving to Canterbury to collect it. The car was beautiful, and a true dream to drive.
“Ashdown Park Hotel treated us like royalty. We were given the master suite, which was exquisite, and treated to a stunning evening meal and also breakfast. I can never thank them or Barretts enough.”
The rest of the former Abbey School student’s bucket list includes: Having a cup of tea with her favourite actor Ray Winstone at a greasy spoon; ringside seats for a boxing match; a trip to New York and a trip to Scotland to visit Leslie Castle.
