Around 350 residents in Teynham have been left without electricity after a cable blew up this morning.
Firefighters went to a substation on Frognal Gardens at around 7am after smoke was spotted coming from a power line.
The crew made the area safe until UK Power Networks arrived.
Many businesses along London Road have also had to shut their doors for the day.
Ross Hillman, mid-Kent operations manager at UK Power Networks, said: "We managed to get about 350 people back their power within about 45 minutes.
"But there are around 300 still off.
"Five different sites have been affected by the loss of the high voltage power cable and we hope to get them back in stages.
"Someone reported a blast from the pole this morning and said there was a bang."
The Surgery in Teynham says it's business as usual: "Our doctors are still seeing patients.
"We have no lights, no phones and no computers, so we've got all call directing to our mobiles and are using pen and paper.
"We are very much still open."
Other businesses such as Groomingdales had notes in their windows saying they were closed due to the power cut.
