A senior husky in the care of a council's dog warden may be put to sleep due to the cost of her medication.
Rosie, who was found straying in a park near Ufton Lane, Sittingbourne, is in desperate need of a lifeline after being in the pound for the last 54 days.
Swale council's dog warden, Mel Herbert, isn't looking for rehoming offers for the old girl but is instead hoping a dog rescue centre will step forward to take care of Rosie.
However, today it has been confirmed that the pooch has all the indicators of diabetes.
Mel said: "She's completely blind in her right eye and her left is severely affected. This in itself sheds some light on why she's so head-shy.
"Though diabetes itself isn't a death sentence, leaving it untreated can be and sadly, as a council, we don't have the resources to provide her with the necessary treatment.
"Unless a rescue can come forward within the next week to offer her a lifeline, Rosie will cross the rainbow bridge under veterinary advice.
"For those of you who know our service, you'll know this wasn't an easy conversation and it certainly isn't the outcome we wanted, but her comfort and welfare are our main priority.
"Life can be so cruel."
Previously Mel said she was "desperate" to get Rosie to a rescue and had been working closely with New Hope Animal Rescue and Saints Sled Dog Rescue.
But due to rising costs they've been unable to take the aged husky on.
Mel added: "She's spent so long in the pound and we are asking if any rescues can offer a lifeline to Rosie.
"She's such a good girl, there's got to be a rescue out there who can help her."
If any rescue is able to help Mel email melissaherbert@swale.gov.uk or call the council on 01795 417850.
