An injured dog had a narrow escape after it was reportedly thrown from a moving car.
The Staffordshire bull terrier was found by a passer-by dumped in Murston at around 11am on Wednesday.
It had a severe wound around its neck (pictured) which is believed to have been caused by being tied up for a long time, or a collar which was too tight.
The animal was handed over to Swale council before being taken for immediate veterinary treatment.
Luckily the wound appears not to be infected and it should heal over time.
The mutt, nicknamed "Brucie" by vet staff, is believed to be around four and is described as having a "really lovely nature".
Unfortunately, he hasn’t been microchipped so the owner can’t be traced.
The council is appealing for witnesses in the hope of finding the person who inflicted the injuries and disposed of him.
Swale animal control officer, Tim Oxley, said: "We would very much like to hear from anyone who has any information about ‘Brucie’.
"Where is he from and how did he come to sustain this injury?
"He is light fawn in colour and had a leather harness on when he was found.
"He is now being cared for by Jasmil Kennels and we would really like to find a good suitable home for him."
Cllr David Simmons, Swale council’s cabinet member for environment and rural affairs, said: "Whatever the real cause of the injury, this is very serious, and by allowing this to happen someone has committed an offence.
"We urge anyone who has any information to contact us and we will work with the RSPCA to find those responsible for the injuries."
Anyone with any information is asked to call 01795 417850 in confidence. Alternatively, if you can offer a home for Brucie, call Jasmil Kennels on 01795 842466.
