This moggy is ‘feline’ just fine now thanks to a veterinary surgery.
Ed, who had no collar and wasn't microchipped, has been in the care of Wellpets since the beginning of the month when he arrived with a large infected wound underneath his left elbow.
Staff started the stray on a course of antibiotics and painkillers, but when the injury didn't show any signs of healing the decision was taken to operate.
Due to the site being badly infected a skin graft was performed to replace the large area of necrotic tissue.
Janet Higerty, head nurse at the animal hospital in Periwinkle Court, Milton Regis, said: “As Ed is a stray cat there is only £60 + VAT available from the RSPCA for emergency treatment so Wellpets have undertaken all this work to ensure Ed is given the best chance possible of having a good quality of life rather than euthanising him.
“The procedure and treatment would have cost in excess of £1,000 in normal circumstances, so he is a very lucky boy.”
Ed is making a good recovery and although he currently has drains in place to prevent fluid building up, he will soon be looking for a new home.
Janet added: “Unfortunately we have not been able to trace his owner.
“We understand Ed is currently quite scary-looking and may put off potential new owners but he is a very affectionate boy who needs lots of chin rubs. At least it is Halloween season so he looks good for the trick or treaters.”
