Gardening and crochet have helped see a Kemsley grandmother all the way to 100.
Edna Winder celebrated her century surrounded by family and friends at her home.
A twin passion for knitting and tending to her plants and flowers is thought to be the secret to Edna’s remarkable longevity.
But according to Elizabeth Fleming, lifeline officer for Wellbeing, the independent living service, an inner, sunny demeanour has also done wonders for the town’s latest centenarian.
Elizabeth, who was among Edna’s party gathering on Friday afternoon, said: “She’s got a very positive attitude on life – always optimistic.
She looks great for 100, absolutely amazing, and I think it helps she has such a large and very supportive family.”
One of 13 children, Edna was born in London in 1913. She married in 1932 and spent many happy years living with her sister on their farm in Hertfordshire.
Edna has three children, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She moved to Sittingbourne 16 years ago and, according to Elizabeth, the 100-year-old’s house was “festooned” with bunting for her landmark birthday.
As well as a telegram from the Queen, Edna and her guests enjoyed a “massive” buffet.
Elizabeth said: “Mrs Winder is a lovely lady with many memories from her long life, from looking after her beloved garden, to diving into an Anderson shelter during the Blitz.”
