Sittingbourne pensioner rescued by group of teens

A disabled pensioner who was left stranded when her mobility scooter broke down has praised two schoolboys who came to her rescue and pushed her all the way home.

Carol Nunn was returning from Sainsbury’s to her house, just over half-a-mile away in Peregrine Drive, Sittingbourne, when the vehicle ground to a halt in Stanhope Avenue.

The widow, who suffers from epilepsy and was left paralysed on one side of her body following a stroke, started panicking after she realised did not have her mobile phone with her.

But the 63-year-old’s luck was about to change when a group of teenagers approached her.

She said: “When it broke down I sat there thinking ‘oh no’ – it’s the very thing I’ve had nightmares about because I’ve never been out on my own before, only with my sons pushing me.

“The longer I sat there I was
getting more in a panic.

“I just happened to catch out of the corner of my eye these lads coming out of the alley.

“They came over and said, ‘what’s wrong love?’ and I explained and they literally pushed me up the hill, down the other side, straight to my door and backed me in.

“They were lovely, but I had worked myself into such a fuss I didn’t even think to get their names.”

The grandmother, who relies on her two sons and daughter to help her around the house, now wants to thank the lads, who she has dubbed her “knights in
shining armour”.

She added it was especially important to single them out for praise because of the
sometimes negative light placed on
teenagers.

She said: “You don’t expect it, you hear bad stuff, bad publicity and they are not all like that.”

It happened on Friday, April 24 and although she cannot be
certain, Carol thinks that
judging by the colour of their ties, the boys, who were aged around 13, are pupils at Sittingbourne
Community College.
