Girls at Highsted Grammar School in Sittingbourne showed that raising money for good causes sometimes requires some entrepreneurial flair at their charity bazaar.

To collect as much money as they could, Year 8 pupils put on a fair for classmates and parents that was so well organised it could have been the work of professionals.

They set up stalls selling handmade bracelets, picture frames and confectionary, as well as offering hair braiding, lucky dips and tombolas.

Olivia Pearn, 12, who took a leading role organising the day, said: “We had spent a long time preparing and planning budgets and targets for the event, but it was still quite stressful to make sure that the merchandise all arrived in time.

“The fast rate at which items were selling certainly kept the girls on their toes – one group selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts found these sold like wildfire!”

The girls raised hundreds of pounds for of charities including the British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research UK, the Lullaby Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support.
