Part of the A249 is set to close for an entire weekend as work continues on the multi-million-pound Stockbury flyover project.
The Sheppey-bound carriageway between the M20 Junction 7 and Stockbury roundabout is going to be shut next month.
From 9pm on Friday, May 12, to 5am on Monday, May 15, motorists heading towards the Island via the motorway will be forced to go via a long diversion back down the A249 to Detling Hill, onto the M20 up to Bluebell Hill and back down the M2.
When the road reopens Sheppey-bound traffic approaching the Stockbury roundabout on the A249 will have moved to the other side of the road.
During this closure, National Highways will also have Chestnut Street and the section of Maidstone Road that links Stockbury roundabout, south of Wormdale Hill in Sittingbourne closed.
The busy route has been closed since April 24 and will remain shut for two months.
A spokesman said: “This closure is to allow work on the new link to Oad Street and means there will be no access to the roundabout from Maidstone Road.”
The announcement comes a week after stunning new pictures revealed how work has been progressing on a £92 million flyover.
Exclusive drone footage and images showed the first raft of changes made to the Stockbury roundabout in a bid to solve the congestion on one of Kent’s busiest junctions, used by traffic travelling between Sittingbourne, Sheppey and Maidstone.
