She's got her eye on the ball and Ashlea Bravery is taking on the boys at their own game.
The Sittingbourne Community College student could be the next star of women’s football after gaining a place with Gillingham Football Club.
The 11-year-old, who plays up front, was one of more than 20 youngsters who applied for one of the limited spots available on the under-12s team.
After an impressive try-out she was one of only two girls to make the grade.
Ashlea, who is passionate about sport, said she was "over the moon" with the result.
She said: "I accepted the place straight away. I train Mondays and Wednesdays and play on Saturdays.
"I would like to make football my career, I’ve wanted to do it since I was about six. Most of my family are into football.
"My mum and dad are really proud of me. It’s not just a boys’ sport, I think girls should be taken more seriously when it comes to playing football.
"I’m hoping I’ll get scouted. My dream would be to play for the England team."
Head of year at the school in Swanstree Avenue, Sittingbourne, Oliver Ross, put Ashlea’s name forward for the trials after he was approached by PE teacher Darren Collins.
Mr Ross said: "Mr Collins asked if anyone stood out and Ashlea’s name came up straight away. She stands out as she’s even better than the boys and she’s got a good right foot on her.
"She’s got a good attitude and she’s down to earth, which is good grounding and she’s a good student as well so there’s no reason why she shouldn’t go far."
Head teacher Alan Barham said: "We are so proud of Ashlea and her achievements. She is a talented and enthusiastic football player and we will support her all the way.
"Here at the Sittingbourne Community College we promote sport, health and fitness as much as possible and it is so refreshing to see a young lady like Ashlea getting involved."
