Lorry drivers are missing road closure signs after a gas leak in a main road.
The A2 in Newington was closed between Bull Lane and Church Lane due to the gas leak yesterday morning.
Lorry drivers were told they must avoid the stretch of road between Sittingbourne's Key Street and Rainham in both directions due to a height restriction at a railway bridge in Church Lane.
However, reports suggest they are missing the warning signs and are being forced to carry out u-turns in the area.
Meanwhile, SGN is hopeful of reopening the road later today.
A Facebook post by Swale Borough Councillor Mike Whiting said: "The gas company has found the leak this morning. It is on the opposite side of the road so they have to dig across the road to fix the problem.
"They will update as the day goes on but are hopeful the road will be open for tomorrow. I will update you as I get the information.
"More signs have been requested as well.
"So it looks as though it is worse than thought yesterday and they (the gas company) hope to open the road by tomorrow. Let’s hope the rain holds off and they can crack on."
A later post updated his followers.
It said: "Latest from gas company is their plan is to make good with temporary repairs and open road before 7pm."
