A driver who went missing after his lorry jack-knifed in Bobbing has made contact with Kent police.

Officers had been trying to locate the 25-year-old since he disappeared from the scene of the accident before the police arrived last Thursday.

It’s understood he finally made a call to Kent police at around 7.30pm on Monday.

Inquiries are still ongoing and officers investigating the case are in the process of arranging a time and date to speak to the man about what happened.

The lorry, which was towing a Norfolkline refrigeration trailer, crashed into the railings at the junction of Chestnut Street and Key Street roundabout at around 10.15pm.

As well as the fact the man had left the scene of an accident there were initial concerns for his welfare as he had suffered a minor head injury.

As a result, the police helicopter was scrambled to the area at 1am and a 20-minute search of the area was carried out.

Its thermal imaging cameras were used to help with the search but he wasn’t located.

The A2 Keycol Hill was closed to traffic until 7.45am the following day.

Chestnut Street remained closed until 3pm due to re-surfacing works following a fuel spill.

Local diversions were put in place. Motorists travelling from the Danaway end were diverted via School Lane and around Borden village on to the London Road.
