Bethany Ward spent the past two years avoiding scissors so she could grow her hair to her waist.

But last Friday she finally sacrificed her locks to help young cancer patients. She now has a bob after 12 inches were cut off by Charley Hallen at Canvas in West Street, Sittingbourne.

The 11-year-old’s hair will be donated to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for youngsters who have lost their hair through treatment.

Mum Samantha, 33, grandmother Lyn, 57, aunt Charley, 32, and two-year-old cousin Elliot all witnessed the Grove Park Primary School pupil’s grand gesture.

Mrs Ward said: “I’m very proud of her. It was also her first trip to a salon because my mum usually does a home trim for her, so she was very brave.”

The Year 6 pupil, of Hawthorn Road, Sittingbourne, said: “I was bit nervous but I didn’t cry. I hope a little girl will get my hair and be happy.”
