M2 and A249 motorists stuck in delays due to link road closure at Stockbury roundabout

Motorists are continuing to face delays on the M2 and A249 due to a link road closure near the Stockbury roundabout.

National Highways has shut the dedicated link between the M2 Junction 5 coastbound exit and the A249 Sheppey-bound since 8pm on Wednesday.

It means drivers this morning are again facing delays on the A249 Maidstone-bound between A2 Key Street and J5 of the M2 due to the roadworks and one lane being shut.

There is also severe congestion Sheppey-bound on the stretch between Bimbury Lane and J5.

The closure is set to remain in place until 8pm on Sunday, July 16 so National Highways can prepare to move to a new link road.

A spokesman said: “During the closure, you will be able to join the A249 Sheppey-bound from the Stockbury roundabout, which will remain open as usual.

“To help keep traffic moving on the roundabout and minimise disruption, we’ll have temporary traffic lights on the M2 coastbound exit.

“These lights will be manually controlled at peak times, but drivers should plan ahead.”

A lane will also be closed on the A249 Sheppey-bound between the Stockbury and Key Street roundabouts.

Yesterday it was reported there was heavy traffic heading Maidstone-bound on the road towards Bobbing, with a further two miles of tailbacks Sheppey-bound.
