A key route has been closed for six hours this evening after a crash, causing severe delays.
Kent Highways has warned of major disruption due to the accident on the A249 at Bobbing near Sittingbourne involving a car and a lorry.
The dual carriageway road has been closed northbound and traffic around the Stockbury Roundabout around junction 5 of the M2 and A2 near Sittingbourne following the incident at about 3.10pm.
Recovery work from the earlier crash and clean-up work of debris and oil spillage from A2 at Keycol Hill – the Key Street Roundabout – to the B2006 at the Bobbing Roundabout.
Police remained at the scene throughout the evening.
A tweet from Kent Highways said: “All traffic being temporarily held and there is queueing traffic due to debris on the road.”
The M2 coastbound exit slip is also queuing and the A2 is tailing back in both directions.
Kent Highways added: “Police are directing traffic off at the Key Street junction up Sheppey Way and back.”
A police spokesman said: “Emergency services are currently at the scene and the carriageway is closed while the incident is responded to.”
The road reopened shortly before 9pm.
