A driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence following a crash on the A249 early today.

The accident happened in a lay-by between Key Street and Stockbury roundabouts at about 4am when the man’s vehicle reportedly collided with two parked HGVs.

Police closed the road to clear an oil spillage leading to tailbacks for drivers heading towards Maidstone. It was cleared at about 7am.

Following his arrest, the man was sectioned under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital.
