A man has been arrested following a police chase in Sittingbourne.

The incident happened at about midday after a blue BMW failed to stop for officers.

Following "a short pursuit", the car stopped just behind the High Street.

The driver fled the vehicle on foot and headed towards the railway line.

After a short search, in which a police helicopter was also involved, a man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

He has been taken into custody.
