Kieron Kerswell admits knife attack on two people in Sittingbourne at Maidstone Crown Court

A man is facing prison after attacking two people with a knife in Sittingbourne.

Kieron Kerswell, 25, admitted two offences of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm before his trial was due to start at Maidstone Crown Court.

Gary Spencer was said to have been “slashed” during the incident near the junction of Canterbury Road and Harold Road in February, while Jonathan Tilley was stabbed in the buttock.

Kerswell, of Crown Quay Lane, Sittingbourne, had denied possessing a “machete-style knife” at an earlier hearing.

This was accepted by the prosecution and the offence was left on file.

John Keal, prosecuting, explained the charge “added nothing” to the offences Kerswell had admitted.

The two men were injured after a woman was headbutted by Jake Kerswell.

He was also in dock and denied the same two offences of wounding with intent against Mr Spencer and Mr Tilley.

In light of Kieron Kerswell’s guilty pleas, the prosecution offered no evidence against him and formal not guilty verdicts were recorded.

However, Recorder Simon Crookenden was told Jake Kerswell, 23, had admitted assaulting Jing Jing and causing her actual bodily harm on the same occasion.

She was briefly left unconscious and had a bloody mouth. Mr Keal told the court Miss Jing also suffered dizzy spells for “sometime afterwards”.

Sentencing of both men was adjourned until September 18.

Kieron Kerswell, who has previous convictions for violence, was remanded in custody.

Recorder Crookenden said reports were needed to assess his “dangerousness”.

Jake Kerswell, previously of Sheppey Beach Villas, has been on remand since February and served the equivalent of a year’s sentence.

He was released on bail on condition he lives with his mother in High Street, Sheerness.
