A man remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital today after suffering life-threatening head injuries when he was hit by a car yesterday afternoon.He was struck by a woman's silver Ford Fiesta in Avenue of Remembrance, Sittingbourne, at just before 1pm.The pedestrian, a Polish national in his 30s, was airlifted to a London hospital in a critical condition.Kent Police closed the road for four hours while officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit examined the scene.The air ambulance landed in Borden Grammar School's playing field.It took the man - visiting the town for the day with friends - to the Royal London Hospital.Earlier, witness Sue Ball said: "The road has been taped off."As you travel up Bell Road with Sainsbury's on your right it happened on the left hand side about 100 yards up, just before the crossing I think."There were about three children aged about 13 to 14 sitting on the pavement with their heads in their hands."
Police said the Fiesta's female driver, who was not injured, has not been arrested.
