A gang member implicated in the vicious murder of Kent school teacher Carl Davies has been locked up for 15-years.
The 33-year-old security guard's body was found dumped in a ravine on the south Indian Ocean island of Reunion six years ago.
After a three-day day trial in the island's capital of Saint-Denis, Vincent Madouré was found guilty of carrying out the sickening crime, but family say their quest for justice is not yet over.
Mr Davies worked on a cargo ship which had docked in the city in November 7 2011.
According to reports in local media, Mr Davies's body was found by a soldier in a crevasse behind some army barracks two days later.
"We are extremely happy but also so sad at the same time because nothing will bring Carl back to us." - Carl Davies' sister Kerrie Stewart
Initially, the death was believed to be an accident, but after a post-mortem found he had been beaten and stabbed repeatedly the authorities belatedly launched a murder investigation.
The charred husk of burnt vehicle found nearby may have been used to move the body from another location, according to reports.
Since the death family, who were from Harrietsham but now live in Scotland, have been fighting an uphill battle to get to the bottom of what happened to the beloved former Isle of Sheppey Academy teacher.
His parents, Andy and Maria, sister Kerrie Stewart and her husband, Joe, flew out to Reunion Island to see justice served.
Two other men were initially implicated in the case and believed to be members of the same gang as Madouré.
Both are reported to be serving prison sentences for assaulting another foreign visitor but were acquired early in the trial.
Speaking after the hearing Mrs Stewart said: "We are delighted with the result, however obviously the fight goes on to secure justice for Carl because we believe the other two were heavily involved.
"We are extremely happy but also so sad at the same time because nothing will bring Carl back to us."
