A pervert who tried to rape a woman who was visiting his home has been jailed for seven years after a judge told him: “Custody is inevitable for these wicked crimes”.
The victim told how she begged Adeniran Adelakun to stop as he suddenly attacked her. But he pushed her up against a door and attempted to have intercourse with her.
The woman, who is in her 20s, said she was at the married 41-year-old’s home in Sittingbourne in June 2016 when he started asking her questions about why she did not have a boyfriend. He then put his arms around her.
“I felt really uncomfortable,” she said. “I told him to leave me alone and not to touch me. He said I am not a little girl.”
Adelakun asked her to touch him intimately and kiss him, but she refused.
“I was not attracted to him or sexually interested in him,” she told a jury at Maidstone Crown Court. “I made that clear to him.
“It got worse. He wasn’t listening. At one point he got on top of me. He was trying to pull my top up. I tried to kick him off. He tried to pull my skirt down. I could hear his heart pounding.
“I said: ‘Why are you doing this? Just stop.’ He grabbed me and pulled my skirt down and underwear as well.”
The victim said Adelakun then sexually assaulted her as he held her tightly. He pulled his trousers down and exposed himself, telling her: “I really need this.”
“He was getting really angry,” said the woman. “I was really scared. I thought: Oh my God, what am I going to do? He was so strong.”
Adelakun pushed her face first against a door and tried to rape her.
“I was crying and begging him to leave me alone,” she said. “He wasn’t having any of it. I told him on several occasions I didn’t want to do it.
“I couldn’t believe what had happened. I said: ‘You are so disgusting. Why did you do this?’”
Adelakun said: “What’s happened, let’s keep it between us.” After his arrest he denied attempting to rape the woman or sexually assaulting her.
He claimed he touched the victim’s breast with her consent but said he did not want to have sex with her because he was a married man.
He further denied exposing himself to the woman, but despite her washing her skirt and tights his DNA profile was recovered from them.
Adelakun, of Tonge Road, Murston, denied attempted rape, two offences of sexual assault and one of assault by penetration.
He was convicted of attempted rape and assault by penetration and acquitted of the other charges.
He had no previous convictions but was cautioned in 2014 for beating his wife.
Passing sentence, Judge Charles Macdonald QC said a victim statement showed “not surprisingly” distress and loss of trust.
“You have shown no remorse as you have been convicted after a trial,” he added.
Adelakun’s name will appear indefinitely on the sex offenders’ register.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Shaun Ravate, said: "Adelakun’s behaviour on that night was disgusting and he preyed on a vulnerable woman who bravely spoke up and reported the incident. He denied the allegations continuously and put not only the victim, but also his family, through the ordeal of a trial.
"I’m pleased he has been sentenced and I hope this provides closures for the victim and her family."
