A man has been jailed for three years after admitting a terror charge.

Malcolm Hodges, of London Road, Teynham, was arrested on March 23 by officers investigating communications attempting to incite acts of terrorism towards UK businesses.

The 52-year-old was charged with one count of solicitation to murder under the Offences Against the Person Act.

He was also accused of having material “likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism”, contrary to Section 58 of the Terrorism Act.

Hodges pleaded guilty to both charges when he appeared at Woolwich Crown Court and also admitted being in breach of a three-year conditional discharge he received in 2014.

He was sentenced to three years for encouraging terrorism and a further two years, to be served concurrently, for possessing terror-related digital material.

His sentence also included a 10-year terrorism notification period, meaning he has to inform police about foreign travel plans and changes to his address.
