Furious about an allegation made against his uncle, Shane Fromm went to his home and inflicted serious stab wounds on him, a court heard.
The 22-year-old grabbed a sheathed knife and walked to Michael Fromm’s house just under two miles away in Sittingbourne.
When he opened the door, Fromm stabbed him in his chest and left arm with the 10in blade.
Fromm, of Dean Road, was jailed for four years after admitting wounding with intent and two years and six months for possessing an offensive weapon, to run concurrently.
A judge said he accepted "extremely glowing" references which stated Fromm was a promising young man who bitterly regretted what he had done.
Maidstone Crown Court was told that when he heard the allegation on March 29, which cannot be revealed for legal reasons, he immediately armed himself with the knife.
Mr Fromm was at home with his fiance Kelly Mash and daughter at Dickson Court when there was a knock on the door.
He opened it to see his nephew and his brother. Fromm took the knife from the sheath, screamed at his uncle and then launched the attack as Miss Mash watched in horror.
Fromm pulled the knife from the victim’s chest and ran out of the front door.
Michael Fromm was taken to hospital, where he needed 17 stitches in his arm and seven in a two-and-a-half inch cut near in his chest. A rib prevented the knife going deeper.
He was left unable to work and said he feared for his safety.
Police found Fromm talking to his mother on his phone on the Eurolink Estate. The knife was in the sheath next to him.
His mother told police he had been in a state of aggression she had never seen before.
Fromm admitted he was enraged for the duration of walking to the house.
Judge Martin Joy said he had decided Fromm did not pose a danger of causing harm in the future.
“The defendant is very young,” he said.
“It has been suggested he is immature. There is a positive and glowing set of references.”
A restraining order was made banning contact with the victim.
