Forensic tests are being carried out on an undiclosed item to see if it might be linked to an assault which took place in Sittingbourne over the weekend.
Police are not revealing what the item is but have said the object was discovered by a member of the public.
Witnesses are being urged to come forward with any information after two men, both from Sittingbourne, were allegedly assaulted by a group of four men and three women in an alleyway between Capel Road and Roonagh Court sometime between 1.30am and 2.30am on Saturday, October 10.
One of the victims, a 44-year-old, suffered a fractured skull in the assault.
He was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital for treatment. His condition is described as stable.
Police are also keen to trace a dark-colored Ford Escort that was seen parked in Capel Road
Insp Evan Jones, of the Sittingbourne Neighbourhood Team, said: "This item was recovered thanks to the quick thinking actions of a member of the public.
"He spotted it near to where the assault took place and rang Kent Police immediately.
"It has now been sent away for forensic analysis and we are awaiting results. This was a serious assault and Kent Police are taking action to catch those responsible."
