A man was hospitalised after he was assaulted by an unknown attacker last night.

Police were called to Sittingbourne High Street at 11.30pm to a report of a disturbance.

It is believed a man ran up to the victim, punched him in the head and then ran away.

The victim reportedly hit his head against a phone box in the scuffle and was bleeding heavily as bystanders came to help him.

He was taken to hospital where he was treated for injuries to his hand and face.
