A man was rushed to hospital with a serious hand injury after it was crushed under a skip.

It is believed he was one of two men loading a skip filled with garden rubbish on to the back of lorry when the accident happened at an address in Ashtead Drive, Bapchild, just before 4.45pm yesterday (Wednesday).

Police and ambulance were called to the scene as well as the Kent Air Ambulance which landed on a playing field at Bapchild and Tonge Primary School, in School Lane.

Two fire engines from Sittingbourne were also in attendance after initial reports came in as a man being trapped underneath a skip.

He was taken by land ambualnce to Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham for treatment.

The full extent of his injuries are currently unknown.
