Teenager Mark Cryer continued his improvement with a strong performance for Great Britain at the UK Athletics Aviva under-20 Indoor Combined Events International at the weekend.
The former Borden Grammar pupil, 18, recorded several personal best performances representing the host nation against France and Spain in Cardiff.
The Medway & Maidstone AC star recorded personal bests in the 60m (7.36s), shot (11.54m), pole vault (3.35m) and 1,000m (2mins 48secs).
The Brunel University student’s combined score of 4,644 for the seven events was also a new personal best, beating the 4,461 he set on his way to winning the bronze in the under-20 heptathlon at the England Athletics Combined Events Championships at Sheffield in January.
Cryer said: "I improved several weaknesses but I was disappointed that two of my best events – the long jump and hurdles – did not go that well.
"It just didn’t go right on the day, my technique was a problem with the long jump, I didn’t post a score until the third round in the long jump and the shot."
Cryer is now focusing on the England Athletics under-20 Outdoor Combined Events Championships in Bedford in May.
