An actor who turned his life around after struggling with mental illness and substance abuse has landed a role in an €80 million Hollywood movie.
Jamie Humphrey, from Sittingbourne, will be starring in 14 Knots, a big budget film about army specialists attempting to save their partner on a mission in Afghanistan.
The former security guard first got into acting after speaking with A-lister Mark Wahlberg on a film set he was guarding.
Jamie, 33, had always wanted to be on the big screen so after speaking with the Ted star, Jamie put a post on Facebook explaining his ambitions.
From there a Bengali film maker messaged him and offered the dad a day on set which led him to his first extra and speaking role.
Also known as Tollywood, Bengali films are an Indian film industry of Bengali-language motion pictures.
Following his first role, Jamie was contacted by casting director Rupsa Banjree in 2020 and was offered another in the 2021 film Anusandhan.
Jamie has not only starred in Bengali films but also Sky Atlantic’s crime drama Gangs of London and drugs thriller Victor.
Known as Mr Hollywood to his friends, Jamie is finally living up to his nickname.
His latest project, 14 Knots, is co-produced by Enorama Media Production and three additional Hollywood companies.
Jamie said: “I got this role through my new management agent who is from Greece.
“The film is still in its script stage at the moment but I got this character as I look the part. I cannot mention the exact role but this is a Greek movie with a huge budget.”
Around €80 million – or nearly £71 million – is being spent on the production.
Jamie added: “This is my first time in a proper Hollywood film with my name on the credits.
“All I can say at the moment is that I am a soldier.
“Filming will be in the USA, Dubai and Greece, however I now really need to get in shape and get my mind in shape for the character I am portraying.”
Last year, Jamie appeared in 30 films and won his first award.
Along with his friends and family, Jamie attended the National Social Media Awards on October 26 in London.
He won Best Up and Coming Actor Across Social Media.
Jamie added: “Thanks to my new management I have accomplished a lot this past year.
“Getting a part in this Hollywood movie is the biggest achievement for my family – Hollywood here I come.”
