An Upchurch couple whose lives were saved by Mock the Week have met the stars of the show at a recording in London.
Rob and Michelle Ellmore were invited after a producer read our story about how the family could have died had Rob not stayed up to watch the programme in bed.
Michelle and the couple's two young children were asleep when the fire started in the kitchen of their rented home in Gills Terrace, just before 11.20pm on February 9.
It was only when Rob, 29, switched off the TV that he heard a noise downstairs and went to investigate.
He shouted up to his wife to get Freya, then 18 months, and Luca, four, out of their bedrooms as he dialled 999.
The family, who have been staying with Rob’s parents, finally moved back into their home three weeks ago.
Michelle said: “It’s nice to have our home back although I think we were all a little nervous about going back.”
Producer Ewan Phillips offered them tickets to a recording and they travelled to London last Tuesday to watch.
Afterwards the pair were invited backstage where they met presenter Dara O’Briain and panel member Hugh Dennis.
Rob said: “It was absolutely brilliant. Personal highlights for me included a good chat with Dara, he gave us a lot of his time and took a great interest in us.”
Mr Phillips said: “It was lovely to meet them.
“They really enjoyed the show and they got to meet the production team as well as Dara O’Briain and Hugh Dennis who enjoyed meeting them too.
“They seemed as good as they could be after an experience like that.
“I’m delighted it worked out well for them and it’s great to hear they’re back in their home and have been for a couple of weeks now.
"We’re going to send them a couple of Mock The Week mugs to go in their new kitchen.”
