The four-month closure of two slip roads between the M2 and the A249 is almost over.
In just five weeks Sittingbourne’s Junction 5 coast-bound entry and exit slips will reopen.
Despite the recent spell of snow and bad weather National Highways confirmed there will be no delays with the busy route returning to normal on January 13.
However, there will be additional closures this weekend.
The A249 Sheppey-bound, between the Stockbury roundabout and Bobbing, will be fully closed from 8pm tonight until 5am Monday morning.
For drivers wishing to head towards the island from the Stockbury roundabout, there will be a diversion in place via Maidstone Road, Chestnut Street, and Sheppey Way.
This will bring you back to the A249 Sheppey-bound, where you can continue with your journey.
The A249 Maidstone-bound, between Bobbing and the Stockbury roundabout ,will also have a lane closed at the same time this weekend.
As well as this the closure of the slip roads has meant that motorists have not been able to access the Stockbury roundabout from the M2 coastbound or join the M2 coastbound at Stockbury.
National Highways planned an 18-mile diversion which Google Maps says takes 21 minutes to complete, adding 11 miles to the normal route.
The coastbound entry slip diversion will take drivers to Junction 4 at Gillingham/Hempstead Valley and back again but the exit slip diversion directs traffic down Blue Bell Hill, onto the M20 and back up the A249 northbound.
However, the A2 through Rainham and Sittingbourne has taken the brunt of the traffic.
National Highways has been finishing the widening work on the new £92m Stockbury flyover linking the A249 with the M2 at junction 5.
A spokesman for National Highways said: "We appreciate that these roadworks may cause delays and disruption, and are grateful for people’s patience while we deliver this important upgrade at junction 5 on the M2.
"Any delays due to weather have not affected the end date of the project which is still on track."
