The woman in charge of fund-raising at Demelza House is set to embark on her latest challenge for the charity closest to her heart.
Sue Piper, head of fund-raising at the hospice in Bobbing will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest free standing mountain in the world this August.
Africa’s highest peak at 5,896m will be the most strenuous challenging trek which Ms Piper will probably ever do with terrain ranges from jungle paths and moorland to the rocky scree and huge permanent glaciers from its snow-capped summit where it can be -30C.
She said: “I am very much looking forward to the challenge and excitement that no doubt lies ahead but admit to being just a little apprehensive about coping with the altitude too.
“If I can raise some money for a very deserving cause then I will be thrilled to bits, Demelza is a charity very close to my heart and I can think of no better way to help support something so deserving and that I am hugely passionate about.”
This will be her second challenge trip to Africa having achieved the Cederberg Wilderness trek recently which she completed by climbing Table Mountain in Cape Town after a gruelling 11 days in the wilderness.
Ms Piper, who is a keen fitness enthusiast and loves nothing more than pushing herself to extremes has also raised thousands for charities over the years with her last London Marathon managing to tip £10,000 in sponsorship.
She added: “The training is going well and I am really looking forward to the climb but really need to get some more vital fund-raising for Demelza. I always consider that being fit, healthy and able bodied is something I should never take for granted and if I can use what I am fortunate enough to be blessed with to benefit those less fortunate then it will make such a challenge all the more worthwhile."
