Move over Paul Hollywood. A group of 12 women put their cooking skills to the test in a competition called The Great Kentish Bake Off.

The fundraiser was organised by married mum-of-two Helena Sait in aid of Mental Health Foundation, a charity which is close to her heart.

Contestants brought their creations along to a tea and talk evening held at her home Keycol Hill, Bobbing, to be judged.

Among the tasty treats were a triple chocolate Rolo cheesecake and a butterfly island coconut sponge cake.

But it was mum-of-two Rachel Briggs, from Upchurch, who was crowned Kent’s Queen Baker thanks to her strawberry-flavoured macaroons.

Runner-up was Michelle Cooper, from Sittingbourne,, who made shortbread. Katy Wood, from Canterbury, secured third place with her apple cake.

Everyone was presented with a certificate and medal for taking part. Quizzes and raffles, refreshment and even a fee to use the toilet helped raise £81.64. Mrs Sait said: “We had a brilliant evening.

“We also spent a little time talking about mental health issues, and learning about ways to improve some of the most common ‘symptoms’ such as depression and anxiety.”
