A mum who juggled a newborn and home-schooling her older son during the Covid-19 lockdown has penned a book to help other new parents.
Lisa Marie-Wells, who lives in Sittingbourne, wrote her first book – Mum Is Tired But She Loves You – while on maternity leave last year.
The former Fulston Manor School pupil said: “I was finding it really difficult to cope with a new baby during lockdown and the book was born from this.
“It’s about a mum going through the stages of motherhood; starting with the pregnancy and how tired she is, going through to the baby starting to crawl and how hard that can be for mum, and then through to the school years and everything mums have to juggle.
“But, on the last page, it says: ‘In the blink of an eye you’ll be 21’. I want to remind new mums just how fast their babies will grow up. The main message is that even though they are exhausted, they need to cherish every moment because they will pass them by so quickly.”
Lisa, who is now back working as a civil servant on Sheppey, said the book is aimed at new mums who are predominately struggling and feeling alone.
“During lockdown with a new baby and trying to home-school my older son, it was just so difficult,” the 29-year-old said. “But, after speaking to others, I realised I wasn’t alone and I wanted to highlight this in the book.”
One scenario illustrated in the book is how the mum is unable to sleep at night and is instead awake, wondering what her baby will grow up to be.
“I often wonder if the boys are going to be doctors or will find the cure to cancer when they’re older,” Lisa said. “And the feedback I’ve so far received is from mums saying how they can really relate to the illustrations and wording, which is great.”
The book is available on Amazon or via the ‘Mum Is Tired But She Loves You’ Facebook page, with 10% of profits from sales going to Mind charity’s Mums Matter campaign, which focuses on mental health support for new mums.
