A man has been charged with murder after a fatal stabbing at the weekend.

A 36-year-old man, known as 'Steven’, was found at a house in Oak Road, Sittingbourne, at around 10.30am on Saturday with two stab wounds to his chest.

Paramedics from the Kent Air Ambulance and South East Coast Ambulance Service tried to save him by performing an open heart massage, but he died at the scene.

Police cordoned off the road to allow forensics to carry out their investigations and nearby Terrace Road was also cordoned off while specialist investigators scoured the area.

Three people were arrested on Saturday morning – a 31-year-old man, 29-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy.

The woman and boy was later released without charge. People living in the Oak Road area did not want to talk about what they may have seen but one woman just said: “I can’t say anything; it’s just all messy.”

Another neighbour said they first he knew about what had happened was when he saw the Kent Air Ambulance land in a field in nearby Church Road.

He said: “I didn’t hear any commotion, I know the people living there hadn’t been there long but don’t know anything.”

Floral tributes were left at the scene. One read 'love you with all my heart Steven’, another said 'Dad your always in out hearts. Love you more than you know.’ An inquest is due to be opened in the next few days.

Robert George Bygrave, 31, of Harold Road, Sittingbourne, has been charged with murder. He appeared before Sittingbourne magistrates on Monday and was remanded in custody to appear at Maidstone Crown Court at a later date to be fixed.
