Children are going quackers over two new additions to Kemsley Primary Academy.
Since arriving at the school, Maisie and Daisy have been the centre of attention, but they’re not pupils – they’re ducks.
Year R teacher Amanda Claridge suggested introducing the pair to help the younger children understand about animal care.
As a result, the pupils aged four and five held events last term such as selling duck eggs – supplied by Mrs Claridge’s ducks at home, a fair and a cake sale to raise the money needed to buy the khaki Campbell and Indian runner at an auction.
They are now housed in a penned-off area of the playground but go home each night with Mrs Claridge because of foxes in the area.
During the day, the children take it in turns to look after the four-month-old birds, feed and pet them.
She said: “The children love having Maisie and Daisy at school.”
