The opening date for a country park's new parking area has been revealed.
Milton Creek Country Park's entrance has been upgraded thanks to the new Greggs drive-thru which opened last month at the former Regis Medical Centre near Sittingbourne.
Park ranger Kristian Staples confirmed the facility is set to open to the public at the beginning of April.
He said: "After resurfacing work is finished, we are aiming to have the new car park open by the Easter bank holiday weekend."
It has been a 29-year-long ambition for the town's green space.
When the Greggs drive-thru plans were granted permission by Swale Borough Council in October 2021, one of the benefits was that the nearby 128 acres of former landfill site would finally get a car park.
Kristian previously explained: “When the park was originally built an area was set aside for a car park.
“Since Greggs bought the land for their new drive-thru they agreed to build an access road to the country park and an area with 60 car spaces which will be available to the public.
"This will have massive benefits for the country park and draw in more visitors."
Despite the good news, some fear the bakery takeaway will lead to an increase of litter at the beauty spot.
However, Kristian says this isn't the case.
He said: "Since the drive-thru opened we haven't noticed any issues.
"I have also met with the manager of Greggs about this situation.
"We have discussed taking part in joint litter picks. We want to work together to look after the country park."
As well as new parking facilities, a new sign has also been installed for all to see as they enter the park.
Independent councillor for Milton Regis, Steve Davey, said: "I've had a look at the new gate and sign for the Milton Creek Country Park.
"It's very nice work and an asset to the park and local area."
